HOW TO GET THERE

FROM LILLAZ

This is the classic route for hikers, marked with the number 13 (or trail marker AV2).

  • From the Lillaz parking lot, follow the signs for the Alta Via 2. The trail initially climbs through meadows near a water pipeline and reaches the pasture Goilles Inferiore.

  • You will cross a bridge over the Urtier stream and enter a larch forest. Once out of the forest, the valley opens up becoming wild and majestic. You will pass by the hut of the Teppe Lungheand continue through pastures and streams until you reconnect with the dirt road just before the refuge.

FROM CHAMPORCHER

  • You can leave your car at the Dondena pasture. The trail (trail markersAV2or7) ascends with a constant and moderate slope through high-altitude pastures. In about 1 hour and 30 minutes you will reach the basin of the Lago Miserin(2,582 m), where the namesake refuge and the historic Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Nevi are located.

  • Skirting the lake on the right, you continue on the Alta Via 2 trail which climbs more steeply towards the Finestra di Champorcher(2,827 m). After passing the pass, the trail descends with several switchbacks into the Urtier valley. The descent is easy and in about 30-45 minutes you will reach the refuge.

  • The road that climbs from Champorcher to Dondena is mostly unpaved and sometimes uneven; it can be traveled by regular cars with caution, but a higher vehicle is preferable.

The Poderale Road (Easier or for MTB&EMTB)

This route follows the inter-farm road (path10) and is ideal if you prefer a more even surface or if you are on a mountain bike.

  • From the Lillaz parking lot, take the paved road that climbs to the left with a series of hairpin turns (about 18) up to the cottages of Gollie. From here, the road becomes unpaved and gently ascends through the entire valley.

  • Along the way, you will encounter the picturesque Alpini Chapel (location Crèt, 2,010 m), a great spot for a scenic break. You will then continue passing various alpine pastures, including Alpe Tsavanis, until you reach the basin of Péradzà where the refuge is located.
